CRIC-X THE MOVIE

CRIC-X (THE MOVIE)

This is the playblast of some of my shots from one of the animation projects i.e CRIC-X THE MOVIE which i undertook as an animator, while i was a student with Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC). It was premiered all over India on Disney Channel, on 28th May 2010.

This movie was executed in 3ds Max 9 using biped as the rig. It was a movie based on cricket and lot of references were taken from the actual players themselves like their attitude, way of walking, individual characteristics things like that. Among all the characters i got to animate the lead character OM KAPOOR'S introductory shot where he is shown taking off his helmet and acknowledging the crowd.

Lot of discussions and various acting sessions supervised by the Lead and Senior Animator were held before starting the shots and the library. For the introductory scene i was specially told to refer the sequences of  'Shahrukh Khan'  where he leans in his trademark way. I was actually told by my lead to incorporate that as much as possible. While doing that, the main hurdle was his head as it's very huge. While maintaining the curves, balancing the body with a bat in one hand and the helmet in other, managing any intersections between the helmet and ground along with the expressions, this scene was approved by the director in one go with just little tweaks here and there.

The expressions used in the project were totally 2d, so i had to animate facials using hundreds of images simultaneously.

For the Animation Library various shots of batting and bowling were made, keeping in mind the way actual players of Indian Cricket Team perform. They were later used for shots where players are seen either practicing and in the final showdown sequence.

Apart from animation, the learning process also involved handling of technical or software issues issues like handling of the constraints, biped keys and graph. A fabulous experience in terms of work, learning new tricks of biped animation, [which i used to dread so much before, but not after that :))] teamwork, keeping a learning attitude all way to the end was what i got from this first project of mine. And of course working with the industry stalwarts even before entering into the "Big Mainstream Production World".
